 Flat or Low Sloped Roofs have weather barriers between the external and internal part of the building. When water enters such barriers, a phenomena called as a thermal capacitance is observed. Thermal capacitance essentially means a material's ability to store heat. The materials used in a roof assembly has relatively a low thermal capacitance when compared to water. Water requires a lot of energy to raise its temperature and likewise must release a lot of energy to cool.  On a day with favorable ambient conditions, this thermal capacitance can be tracked by a thermal imager and a diagnostic report can be presented to subject matter expert for further analysis.
